Pattern Interrupt

Its a phase I enjoy ... this pattern interrupt of alternating between works in full colour and monochromes. Admittedly my amateurish photography does not do justice to my renderings .This pair is displayed in the lobby of a corporate insurance outfit

THE ENLIGHTENMENT COLLECTION

A Blue Buddha is of medicinal symbolism.
I am particularly pleased with the expressive

smile and the Autumn reminiscent burst of
colour for the backdrop to exude as intended

a vibrant and zesty feel.

Legal tender prompted my hand at painting Buddha aside from the sheer awe of the subject, the motivation of the prices such paintings command, and also the request to do a piece for the home of a Buddhist friend who wished to upgrade placing the customary orthodoxed and conventional piece in black ink outlined on saffron coloured linen. Months of study ,research and understanding better the subject followed. When ready to produce my work , I consulted an old Buddhist friend about what I was planning to do and was reminded to not render the subject in a disrespectful , demeaning, exploitative or negative manner. I had already set out on presenting my work in an appealling , tasteful, pleasing and universally acceptable way. I had however purpose selected incorporating 2 elements in my renderings - that of Directions and the Seasons Contemporary YES Controversial NO. My work on Buddha is fulfilling, enlightening and adding to my knowledge, intellect and wisdom and contributing to my ,development growth and progress. Me, I am spiritual without having to being religious.

follower

follower is made up of 4 panels measuring 26 x 60 cm each. The different background colours represent each of the 4 seaons. I have placed the panels here purely as one of the many variations of displaying this work. Any of which would still be representive of direction to me...including even if each panel is displayed individually in four separate locations. Anyone can be a follower (hence the title and the depiction) to the teachings, the principles, the values, the way of life ... in/of/to/ Buddhism.
